Documentary Film
In working with former combatants and others who had endured violent conflict in Nicaragua, one thing that emerged above all else as something that students from Quinnipiac could work on with them was to ensure that their story was passed on to the next generation in Nicaragua, and to those outside the country. Over a period of three years, Prof. Duffy and students helped a group of former combatants in Leon, Nicaragua tell their story by helping create a three-part historical mural at their community center.
This video project, Valor from Darkness, was undertaken with the assistance of Quinnipiac’s Instructional Technology office and the Albert Schweitzer Institute. It provides an opportunity to satisfy two goals: to serve as orientation and background for groups of students travelling to Nicaragua for Political Science classes, or through the Albert Schweitzer Institute, and to serve as one more vehicle for telling the story of that generation of Nicaraguans. The film can be accessed in English here.
The film premiered in Leon, Nicaragua, in January 2011.
